Kido-san hikes into the countryside of Kagoshima to dig the clay used to create these handcrafted plates. To honor their connection to the land, he stamps the back of each piece with the latitude and longitude of where the clay was harvested, along with the proportions of the clays used.
Part of One Kiln’s CULTIVATE series, these plates blend local Bounotsu clay with Amakusa porcelain stone from Kumamoto, combining the strength of porcelain with the natural texture and warmth of earthenware. The firing method gives the off-white glaze a subtle bluish hue and a natural pattern of speckles across the surface.
We love the clean, low profile of these plates. Simple and modern while still distinctly handmade, they’re beautiful everyday pieces for serving everything from small bites and side dishes to a main course.

From One Kiln
CULTIVATE pieces have qualities of both porcelain and earthenware and are slightly water absorbent. Wash promptly after use and allow to dry completely before storing. Over time, fine cracks and subtle changes in color may develop, adding to the unique character of each piece. Soaking the plate in water before use can help prevent staining.
Dishwasher and microwave use are possible with care. When using a dishwasher, keep the plate separated from other pieces to avoid damage. Make sure it is completely dry before microwaving. Not suitable for oven or open-flame use.
