  • Matsuda-san worked with artisans in the Kansai area to design these beautiful, handcrafted serving chopsticks. These wooden chopsticks are finished with a light urushi (lacquer) coating. At 11" long, these are the perfect length for serving your favorite dishes. And, to rest perfectly on bowls or plates without rolling away, Matsuda-san added a flat side.

On the top of these chopsticks are images of a frog and a rabbit taken from the "Bird Beast Human Scroll", a national treasure hanging at the Toganosan Koanji Temple in Kyoto.

    Handling Notes

    • Wash soon after the use with hot or cold water and wipe with a soft cloth.
    • Store them away from direct sunlight as it may cause deformation or discoloration.
    • They cannot be used near fire or with hot water due to the nature of the coating.
    • Avoid using scrubbing brushes or abrasives.
    • Not dishwasher or microwave safe.
    • When they are damaged or the coating is cracked, replace them as soon as possible.
    • The tips of the chopsticks are thin, so please be cautious when children are using them.
    • Please do not use them for any purpose other than as chopsticks.
    • In very rare cases, coating (lacquer) may irritate skin.
    • As they are made of natural wood with multiple coatings, avoid strong impact, dropping them from high up or rubbing them with a hard object. It may cause scratches or damage.
  • The Jizai Dougu collection of products was started in 2004 by Michiko Matsuda, a renowned cooking teacher and author of over 50 of cookbooks in Japan. Working in conjunction with artisan craftsmen across Japan, Matsuda-san has designed these products to incorporate the vast knowledge she has gained over the past few decades. They are both beautiful and highly functional -- perfect for the home cook.
